Abstract
Strangeness enhancement as a signal of quark-gluon plasma formation
At high enough energy densities a deconfined plasma of quarks and gluons may be formed. One possible signature of plasma formation would be an increase in the production of strange quarks. Using lead ion collisions at the SPS at CERN and the future ALICE experiment at the LHC we aim to investigate the nature of the phase boundary between normal hadronic matter and the QGP.
