Digital Electromagnetic Calorimetry and the ILC

Tony Price (University of Birmingham)

Abstract

The International Linear Collider (ILC) is a proposed future e+e- collider with sqrt(s) <= 1 TeV that will measure the properties of the recently discovered Higgs boson with unprecedented precision. The ILC TDR, published in June 2013, describes the unparalleled detector and accelerator performance required.

I will outline the design of the detectors and the associated physics potential of the ILC, concentrating on the calorimeters, which are the most expensive subdetector systems. Particular emphasis will be placed on the Digital Electromagnetic Calorimeter (DECAL) option, which may offer a cost-effective yet high performance alternative, and its impact on the physics potential of the ILC through the measurement of the top-Higgs Yukawa coupling.
