Abstract
This talk describes initial design studies for the laser-hybrid accelerator for radiobiology
(LhARA). In the first stage of this accelerator, protons and ions are accelerated in laser
interactions before they are captured and focussed with a plasma lens. A fixed field
accelerator provides further acceleration. This hybrid approach will provide a flexible
facility for radiobiology studies and has the potential to be used in a new generation of
hadron-beam therapy facilities.
