The Search for sterile (anti)neutrinos with SciBooNE and MiniBooNE

Morgan Wascko (Imperial College)

Abstract

The discovery of neutrino flavor mixing has shown definitively that the mass of the neutrino is non-zero; this is the only confirmed evidence of physics not allowed by the standard model. The as-yet-unconfirmed electron antineutrino appearance signal observed by LSND implies the existence of a fourth flavour of neutrino and thus even more exotic physics beyond the standard model. This appearance signal, if true, must also be accompanied by antineutrino disappearance. I will present a search for muon antineutrino disappearance with mass splitting consistent with the LSND signal using the MiniBooNE and SciBooNE experiments at Fermilab, which places constraints on the neutrino oscillation interpretation of the LSND electron antineutrino signal.
