Lattice QCD and the search for BSM signals in b physics

Matthew Wingate (Cambridge University)

Abstract

In the past decade, unquenched lattice QCD calculations have increasingly helped to test CKM unitarity, searching for hints of new physics. While work continues to further improve the precision of these tests, another avenue of exploration is opening up: rare B decays. As LHC experiments more precisely measure FCNC decays, such as B to K* plus either a photon or a lepton--anti-lepton pair, new theory calculations are needed to test the Standard Model. This talk will give a brief review of the methods of lattice QCD and will present results of ongoing unquenched lattice calculations of B to K* form factors.
