Abstract

As the first phase of the LHC programme comes to an end, I take a look back on how we got here, and give an experimentalist's view of the main challenges so far. I'll present recent results on Standard Model and BSM physics from CMS, and describe how the detector and experimental programme are likely to evolve over the next decade.
