Title: The Hot Expanding Matter at RHIC

Speaker: Dr Boris Tomasik (Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen)

Abstract

At the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), matter of remarkable properties is produced in collisions of gold nuclei. It is qualitatively different from nuclear matter in ordinary conditions as it is able to attenuate jets when they traverse it. Its inner pressure leads to collective expansion. I will review our current knowledge about the space-time evolution of the fireball. It will be shown how it follows from data and what are the consequences for the properties of the hot created matter.

This Particle Physics Seminar will take place in Seminar Room 1 (room 103), Physics West, at 1315. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served at 1300.
