Abstract
The Birmingham particle physics group is involved in a number of international
collaborations using gaseous detectors to search for rare and beyond the
Standard Model physics. In this talk an overview of the recent activities of the
group will be discussed. These activities include searching for dark matter with
the NEWS-G collaboration, R&D towards a neutrinoless double beta decay
experiment with the R2D2 collaboration, searching for the Migdal effect with the
MIGDAL collaboration and a proposal led by Birmingham for a future dark matter
experiment, DarkSPHERE. Each of these projects will be discussed, with an
emphasis on the contributions of the Birmingham group.
